This presentation will discuss the basics of radiation and radioactive materials associated with the well drilling process. By understanding the radioactive world we live in, the health effects and risks from naturally occurring and man-made radiation sources can be brought into perspective. We will review what radiation is, where it comes from and how it relates to well drilling. If time allows we will also discuss radon: where it comes from, how to monitor, and how to reduce radon levels.
The presentation is being given by Jeff Leavey who currently serves as the Radiation Safety Officer for Cornell University, and is a Certified Health Physicists with 30 years of experience in the field of radiation safety.
