There will be a special screening of The Marcellus Gas Shale Play: Information for an Informed Citizenry, a presentation by Nationally Recognized Cornell Researcher Anthony Ingraffea, about natural gas drilling in New York State.This program will cover the technology, development and impact of horizontal natural gas drilling and slick water hydrofracking in the Marcellus Shale. There will be a Q&A session following the presentation with a panel from the Committee to Preserve the Finger Lakes. Space at this event is limited so anyone attending will be seated on a first come first seat basis.

Rally in Binghampton 9-13-10 before EPA hearing


The EPA conducts its final public hearing on hydraulic fracturing in Binghamton September13 and 15. Rallies both for and against gas drilling were held ahead of the hearings on the 13th. Drilling opponents outnumbered pro-gas people about 2 to 1. Representatives Hinchey and Arcuri spoke (but are missed in this video) followed by filmmaker Josh Fox (Gasland), Binghamton mayor Matt Ryan, Tompkins County legislator Martha Robertson, Sullivan County legislator David Sager, Ithaca Colege biologist Sandra Steingraber, Ulster County legislator Susan_Zimet, Toxics Targetting president Walter Hang, and Dimock, Pa., residents Julie and Craig Sautner, whose well remains contaminated by gas drilling operations. Wes Gillingham of Catskill Moutainkeepers introduces the speakers.

EPA sets meetings

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday announced a new venue and dates for public meetings on the agency’s upcoming hydraulic fracturing study.

Originally scheduled for Aug. 12 at Binghamton University and then rescheduled for the Oncenter Complex in Syracuse, N.Y., the meeting will now be at the Broome County Forum Theater, 236 Washington St., Binghamton, N.Y., on Sept. 13 and 15. Continue reading EPA Meetings in Binghamton
