Town of Ithaca Public Hearing on Gas drilling

Monday, July 11

The Ithaca Town Board will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 11 at 6:15 PM, at Town Hall, 215 N. Tioga Street, Ithaca.

The public will have the opportunity to speak on behalf of or in opposition to a proposed local law, which would clarify that drilling has never been allowed in the Town and it is the Town’s intent to continue to not allow it. The law would clarify and strengthen zoning definitions in the Town of Ithaca Code, clearly prohibiting any land use related to gas drilling.

Specifically, the proposed law would amend the zoning chapter of the Town Code to define forest resource, and clarify the definition of mining and permitted principal use in light industrial zones.

Make your voice heard in support of the Town Board’s stance against fracking!

Ithaca Festival Planning

Plans for the Ithaca Festival Parade are under way!  This year’s Festival Theme is Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream“.  We will be working most weekends in Fall Creek Neighborhood in Ithaca.  There are many great ideas for some very creative costumes, poignant signs, and cleaver choreography.  ShaleShock’s theme interpretation will be in 2 parts: “A Midsummer Nightmare” and “The Dream”All levels of participation are welcome.  Last year folks stopped by to spend as little as an hour or two to join in the fun and frivolity.

Please send me your e-mail or phone number if you wish to be part of the Parade Team communiqué.  steve_austin@earthlink.net

You can also join the list to help with sourcing people and resources. You may also just show up the day of the parade -June2- and march with us!

The Health Implications of Hydrofracking

Wednesday, April 13 @ 6:30 PM
The Health Implications of Hydrofracking
Weiskotten Hall, SUNY Upstate, Syracuse, NY

The four speakers on the panel are Dr. Tony Ingraffea (fracking expert from Cornell), Dr. Adam Law (endocrinologist practicing in Ithaca,
NY), Dr. Stephen Penningroth (water testing specialist), and Mr. Thomas Shelley (chemist/former Cornell chemical safety chief).  It
should be one of the better panels you will find on the health aspects of hydraulic fracturing and natural gas drilling.

Both events are free and open to the public.  Registration is not required.
