Regional Groups

Many different groups participate in the Shaleshock Alliance by organizing in their area or within their communities. Listed here are various groups to contact to learn more or get involved in the movement to prevent exploitative drilling.

Fleased is providing a voice for landholders who leased mineral rights before Marcellus shale gas exploitation was known to threaten our land, air, water and communities. www.fleased.org

Cayuga County – Neighbors United for the Fingerlakes (NUFF)

Neighbors United For the Fingerlakes (NUFF) is a local, grassroots, non-profit organization in Cayuga County committed to creating and sustaining public awareness of environmental threats to the Finger Lakes Region of New York State from CAFO’s, Gas Drilling, Inadequate Sewage Treatment and other Industries. We have a strong interest in water quality and the effects industrial use and disposal of water, have on both water quantity and quality.

Gas Drilling Awareness for Cortland County (GDACC)

Gas Drilling Awareness for Cortland County (GDACC) is a group of residents who are concerned about gas drilling.  Our goal is to educate ourselves and the community about gas drilling, and to promote a safe and clean environment. http://gdacc.wordpress.com

Dryden Resource Awareness Coalition (DRAC)

The Dryden Resource Awareness Coalition (DRAC) was created in the spring of 2009 by Dryden, NY, residents concerned about the possible upcoming consequences that high-volume, slick-water hydrofracturing of gas wells drilled into the Marcellus Shale may bring, not only to our own neighborhoods but also to the southern New York area, and more generally, to “shale play” areas around the country where drilling is already in progress. http://draconline.wordpress.com/

Enfield Neighbors for Safe Air and Water (ENSAW)

Enfield Neighbors for Safe Air and Water (ENSAW) strives to connect and inform the Enfield community about issues affecting the safety and preservation of our local natural resources and environment.

Schlumberger Litigation Group

The Schlumberger Litigation Group is comprised of individuals who support the litigation brought by People for a Healthy Environment challenging the issuance of environmental approvals and permits for a Schlumberger chemical storage and transportation hub in the Village of Horseheads, NY over the primary aquifer for the City of Elmira, next door to the Town of Horseheads recreation facility and across the street from the Ridge Road elementary school.

Pa’lante

Pa’lante is a group at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY that organizes classes, events, and outreach. Pa’lante members have participated in the growing Shaleshock Action Alliance by doing outreach and tabling for the Shaleshock movement during their dance classes, parties, and other events.  http://www.rso.cornell.edu/palante/

Residents Opposed to Unsafe Shale-Gas Extraction

Residents Opposed to Unsafe Shale-Gas Extraction ROUSE will advocate for and provide resources to residents who do not wish to be exposed to the negative health, environmental, economic, and societal impacts of extensive gas drilling. Website

Seneca County Concerned Citizens

We hope to build up a local network in Seneca County, so we can mobilize and meet with our county government over issues like gas drilling and the mega-landfill in Seneca Falls. We will continue to meet and share resources, skills and/or tools for sustainable living.

Shaleshock CNY (Syracuse Area)
