This just in from Onondaga Creek Conservation Council, Children’s Earth Day, Syracuse Peace Council, Neighbors of Onondaga Nation, and Partnership for Onondaga Creek:

Rally for Water

  • Ban Hydro-Fracking
  • Protect water, land and air from unnecessary and significant harm.
  • Call upon the DEC, EPA, Governor Paterson, and local, state and federal representatives to ban horizontal drilling and hydro-fracking in New York and across the US.

Traditional Native Leaders: Hydrofracking must be banned

Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force issues statement against proposed new method of gas drilling:

“Water is the first law of life. We cannot live without water. Over 1/4 of the world’s potable water is right here [in the Great Lakes watershed] and [hydrofracking is] in danger of damaging it severely,” stated Onondaga Faithkeeper Oren Lyons. “This decision is a moral decision,” Cayuga HETF representative Dan Hill admonished the regulators.

Atlantic Chapter of Sierra Club Calls for Ban on Drilling

On Saturday, October 17, 2009, the Executive Committee of the Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club met in Syracuse and passed a resolution proposed by the SC Gas Drilling Task Force. The resolutions calls on the NYS legislature to enact a ban on unconventional gas drilling in NYS.
